 SUNLESS TANNING

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION

The VersaSpa Skin Care system is a booth you step into which evenly coats you in a sunless UV-B free tanning solution in a matter of seconds. In just minutes you are dry enough to get dressed.

Everything else you may need will be provided. You will be in a completely private room so feel free to tan in a bathing suite, or nothing at all.  Put on a hair cover [provided] if needed. Best used for light hair colors. If you are wearing make-up, make-up remover wipes are provided. It is best if you are female to shave, shower and exfoliate prior to your session and males should also shower and exfoliate prior as well. Using a moisturizer is not recommended prior to session.

A special VersaSpa blend barrier cream is provided for you to use before you step into the booth. It is recommended that you apply the barrier cream on your cuticles, palm of hands and in between fingers, elbows, knees, tops of feet and cuticles on your toes.

  • A shower is recommended with a natural, non-moisturizing soap. Do not use Dove or anything similar.
  • Shaving/Waxing should be done 24 hours in advance.
  • Exfoliate the day of your tan. Clean and balanced skin tones tan best.
  • Cosmetics should be removed or refrained from use. This includes make-up, perfume, cologne, lotions, and deodorants.
  • Infrared Sauna: A quick 15-minute pre-tan Sauna session helps clean out pores and prepare skin for treatment
  • Clothing: Please arrive in dark, loose-fitting clothing. Wear open-toed shoes when weather permits. If there is a chance of rain, please bring an umbrella.
INTO THE BOOTH

After you have prepped for your session, step into the booth. Make sure you understand how to use and stand in the unit (your consultant will be of great assistance).  Your Tanning Consultant will explain and demonstrate how to get started, how to stand, how to turn.   Keep your chin up, your arms out at your sides, and the palms of your hands facing down and away from the nozzles at all times. Do not squeeze your eyes shut. Relax them. After the spray ends, stand for about 30 seconds for the blow dry session.

After your session is over, remove barrier cream and lotion. Use wipes provided to wipe off palms of hands and in between fingers, as well with feet, wipe heels and in between toes. Get dressed and enjoy your new tan!

AFTER CARE MAINTENANCE

AFTER CARE MAINTENANCE

1st Shower: The first shower after your Sunless Booth Tanning is important for the longevity of the Sunless Tan. Wait 6 hours before showering. The first shower should be done using a quick rinse with lukewarm water ONLY to remove any excess solution. Avoid exercising and any activity that may cause sweating prior to your 1st shower.

2nd Shower: A second shower should be taken on the following day from your first shower using a soap-free product. For best results, we recommend not sleeping in your airbrush solution. Some residual sweating will occur; which can fade your airbrush/sunless prematurely.

NOTE: Dove products or similar products should not be used for Sunless Booth Tanning Guests.

Drying: After your shower, gently pat dry or air dry. DO NOT exfoliate or rub your skin with a towel.

Moisturizer: Moisturize as often as possible with a high-quality moisturizer. Ask your Sunless Booth Tanning consultant for suggestions.

Water: Drink lots of water. The more hydrated you are, the longer your tan will last.

Shaving: Any Shaving should be done with at least a three-bladed razor in a downward motion. All shaving creams, gels, soaps, oils, and conditioners should be replaced with an extremely light, natural, non-alcohol based substitute.

Skin Care: NO toners, astringents, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or sulfur products should be used.

Perfumes: Perfumes may be applied to either clothing or hair, NOT directly on the skin.

Avoid Chlorine: Swimming pools and hot tubs can remove color and shorten the life of your Airbrush Tan.

Over the Counter Products: We recommend that you avoid using over-the-counter products. The preservatives and chemicals used to prolong shelf life will affect the quality and life of your Sunless Booth Tan.

SUNLESS TANNING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • How should I prepare for my sunless spray tan session?

Exfoliate and shave the day before or the day of your Sunless spray tanning session. (The day before is preferred.) The day of your Sunless spray tanning session refrain from using moisturizers, perfumes, lotions, oils or deodorants that may create a barrier between your skin and the Sunless tanning solution. (You may resume using these after your first shower or bath.)

  • What should I wear to my spray tan appointment?

Loose fitting clothing. If using bronzer, darker clothing works best.

  • How long should I wait after a session before showering?

To give the DHA enough time to fully set, we recommend waiting a minimum of 4 hours after a Sunless spray tanning session or 8 hours for optimal results. Showering sooner may diminish the intensity of the tan. If you tanned using an Instant Cosmetic Bronzer option the Instant Cosmetic Color will wash off in the shower, but the color produced by the DHA will remain.

  • Will swimming affect my tan?

Swimming in chlorinated water or salt water can fade the Sunless spray tanning results, cause possible streaking and will diminish the length of your tan. However, normal activities such as bathing, showering or physical activities will not affect the quality of the tan.

  • Will my skin look orange?

Not at all. Before Sunless spray tanning, most self-tanners were creams and lotions applied by hand. That meant inconsistent coverage. Too much lotion applied in one place left the skin looking orange. Not enough lotion left unattractive streaks.

  • Does sunless spray tanning solution have any smell after contact with my skin?

Some people notice a slight starchy smell on their skin a few hours after a tanning session. This is simply the DHA reacting to proteins in your skin and it fades away fairly quickly.

  • Will the bronzing formula stain my hair or clothing?

The Sunless spray tanning bronzing formula is completely water soluble. Users may notice some initial cosmetic color on the inside of their clothing, but this color will wash out in cold water, however DHA in the tanning formula may permanently stain what you wear during your session.

  • How long does a sunless spray tan last?

A Sunless spray tan can last up to 7 days depending on the formulation you choose and the condition of your skin.

  • Are there ways to enhance the sunless spray tanning results?

Yes, all of the Tansmania retail products we carry are created to enhance and extend professional Sunless spray tanning results. Over the counter products that are not specifically designed for Sunless tanning may block the tan’s application, impede the development process and may create uneven post-tan fading.

  • Is sunless tanning safe?

The FDA has approved DHA as a topical application and recommends that users should avoid inhaling or ingesting DHA. As a result, Versaspa emits the least amount of solution necessary to achieve a full body tan, thus decreasing the amount of inhalable mist for a more pleasant experience. Furthermore, VersaSpa users are encouraged to use protective measures to eliminate ingestion such as: using protective eye wear, nose filters, and sealing lips with lip balm; and the use of disposable undergarments.

  • What is DHA?

The active ingredient most often used in all sunless tanners including tinted moisturizers, self-tanners, and spray tan solution is called DHA or dihydroxyacetone. DHA is a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. For misting applications, the FDA recommends protective measures to prevent eye contact, inhalation or ingestion.

  • What is DHA made from?

DHA is often derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. Its properties as a skin darkener were discovered in the 1920s but weren’t marketed as such until the 1960s, then added to the FDA’s list of approved colors for cosmetic products in the 1970s.

  • Would you recommend Sunless Spray Tanning Solution for people who have skin sensitivities or allergies?

This product is safe, however, if you have skin sensitivities or allergies, we recommend that you consult with a health care professional before using our product.

  • What happens if the Sunless spray tanning solution gets in my eyes?

FDA recommends that DHA not be used in the eyes or surrounding area. That is why we recommend using protective eye wear which can be supplied by your salon. If you choose not to wear protective eye wear and your eyes feel irritated, gently splash with water. If you have additional questions, consult your health care provider.

  • What happens if I inhale any of the Sunless spray tanning solution?

FDA recommends that DHA not be inhaled. That is why we recommend using nose filters which can be supplied by your salon. If you choose not to wear nose filters and your nose feels irritated, consult your health care provider.

  • What is the Sunless spray tan (DHA) advisory?

The FDA advises that users should avoid inhaling or ingesting DHA or letting the spray get into your eyes. When using DHA-containing products as an all-over spray or mist, it may be difficult to avoid exposure in a manner for which DHA is not approved, including the area of the eyes, lips, or mucous membrane, or internally.

The FDA recommends you take protective measures to eliminate eye contact, inhalation or ingestion during your spray tan session, such as:
    • Using protective eye wear
    • Wearing nose filters
    • Using ear plugs
    • Sealing lips with lip balm
    • Using protective undergarments
